Merging School Councils

Merging School Councils
Posted on 05/16/2023

Over the past three years, the Fisher Park Parent Council and the Summit Alternative Parent Council have worked together as engaged partners demonstrating trust and respect, thus enabling the Council to achieve far more by working together. The experience over the past few years has seen the two councils collaborate, innovate, and effectively operate as one on numerous activities. The primary benefactor of our increased fundraising is FPSA’s students. This year alone, Council has invested in the library, technology (Sperhos, Makey Makey), activities (Open Your Eyes Day, graduation), and sports (equipment, jerseys), to name but a few – we look forward to sharing more in our year in review next month. Maintaining two councils is not without its administrative challenges and duplication of efforts. This year, both Councils have been working on plans to merge realizing streamlined administration while keeping the spirit of both Councils. Throughout this process, particular attention is given to preserving and encouraging the alternative tenets within the larger school community. We are confident that a single parent council will make us stronger together.

Next Steps:

After a very productive meeting on May 25, 2023 parents and interested community members have created a draft constitution for the FPSA School Council. you can view a copy of the draft constitution here. Feedback and questions must be submitted to [email protected] prior to Wednesday May 31, 2023.
