About Our School

Fisher Park/Summit Alternative School is an intermediate school located in central Ottawa, offering the Regular English program, Early and Middle French Immersion, and the Alternative program (Summit). We also have one General Learning Program class. Our mission is to foster a lifelong love of learning and create a positive environment of mutual respect. The school was originally constructed as a high school in 1948. It remained a high school until 1987. The Ottawa Roman Catholic Separate School Board then operated Notre Dame High School from this site until the spring of 1994, at which time our school was created.

Fisher Park’s student population reflects the diversity and richness of Canadian culture. Our school offers students the opportunity to develop their talents in the areas of academics, the arts, athletics and leadership.

Fisher Park staff are committed to providing exemplary education to all our students. Our staff team includes teachers, educational assistants, a library technician, office staff, and a large custodial team. Staff have a wide range of educational expertise, interests, and talents, which they offer to enrich the lives of our students. Their dedication helps students achieve their potential.

Parents are welcome partners in our school community. We look to parent volunteers in our classrooms, on trips and to help with our Breakfast clubs and other special events. The Fisher Park and Summit School Councils play a vital role in the life of our school with fundraising activities and organizing school events which foster a positive school climate. Our Councils work together on issues for the betterment of our school and our students.

We offer the following academic programs:

  • English Program with Core French: Instruction in the English language in all subject areas as well as instruction in French through Core French (40 minutes daily).
  • Early and Middle French Immersion: Students receive 50% of instruction in French.
  • Summit Alternative
  • General Learning Program

We have a Learning Resource Teacher, Learning Support Teacher, Intermediate Student Success Teacher, and English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher. Through our integrated delivery model, our special education and ESL staff work closely with students, parents, and classroom teachers to develop Individual Education Plans to monitor student achievement.
